QRPoMeter - Digital 15W QRP Wattmeter / Dummy Load / VSWR Meter Kit

This kit was conceived to fill a need within the hobby for an inexpensive, highly accurate VSWR and RF power meter for QRP power levels. The QRPoMeter uses simple analog signal-processing circuitry to provide a set of essential measurement features not previously available in a single unit. High quality, double sided, printed circuit board construction is used, with solder mask and silk screened component reference designators. Except for eight large SMT resistors, all components are through-hole for easy assembly. NO toroids are required. All controls and the BNC jacks are PCB mounted, and a single, four conductor ribbon cable is the only wiring necessary. The QRPoMeter can be constructed by beginners as well as experienced builders. Construction time is approximately 3 hours, depending on experience level. The only equipment required for calibration of the QRPoMeter is a digital voltmeter, and a QRP transmitter.

The VSWR meter uses a resistor bridge for sensing reflected power. This type of circuit has a real advantage for use with QRP kits, many of which do not have VSWR protection of the finals. No matter how bad the antenna impedance is, the worst VSWR the PA will ever see is 2:1 while the QRPoMeter VSWR bridge is in-line.

So glad Dave start selling his kits on here!

I already have a lot of the kits Dave NM0S designed that I bought from Four State QRP Club. I can't thank him enough for offering the kits here that have been discontinued at 4SQRP. I can't believe he is making much money on these kits, and by the way - they are worth every penny.
I had an original QRPoMeter, however it seems to have traveled somewhere so I'm happy to get another one to use. I see this new version has some SMD components, however looking at them they're the larger ones that shouldn't be a problem for anyone capable of building a through-hole kit.
Quality is excellent, and packaging/shipping were great.
Nothing but good things here, and now to get to building.

Ideal QRP Wattmeter replacing an OHR WM-2

Ironically if I hadn't regretfully sold off my OHR WW2 meter some years back, I might never discovered this QRPoMeter, as every QRP'er needs some kind of QRP wattmeter. NM0S did a stellar circuit and case design on this very accurate meter. If you take your time, and follow his instructions in order, and test fit case parts, you should have no trouble whatsoever. I like that it is digital, at QRP levels, and that their is a dummy load/ bridge in the unit that protects any QRP rig from an SWR higher than 2::1. Also everything about this unit can be read and seen without my reading glasses.

Performs as expected, I love it! 100% Satisfied!

I was surprised at how rugged the PC boards are. I won't go into details, but I ended up doing a lot of rework to fix my 2 big errors, and the board survived.

Website says it is a 3 hour kit, and it may be if you have put one together before. I spent 3 hours studying the instructions, schematic, etc. Then the build began, but the thru hole construction made it easy. The dummy load and bridge resistors are surface mount, but are large and easy to work with, even with my tremors. Just follow the instructions.

Complaints? The instructions, schematic, BOM, etc. are supplied on paper. Probably should have a note, "Don't socket U2." The schematic was almost unreadable, but I was able to finally make an acceptable copy. Building the case was a bit confusing until I actually did it (pictures would have helped), but it looks great!

A remarkable kit with remarkable results. I use it everyday.

On receipt, I checked that all the components were included in the kit and checked the values of each one. All were included and were accurate values. The PCB's were of excellent quality and all through hole soldering went well with no problems. The written instruction were thorough and clearly identified what to install and when, and more to the point - what not to assemble at certain points of the assembly. The calibration procedure was clearly stated, was simple to do using a digital multimeter, and has been found to be very accurate. The case gives it a professional look like it was manufacturer produced, and was simple to assemble. I would highly recommend anyone who has soldered kits before to tackle this one, and for the price it is a great value.

A fantastic kit and product

The kit assembled good, and with no issues, except a few missing resistors that David, NM0S, mailed to me. It calibrated easily and works great! I can tune an outdoor wire with a homemade L network tuner easily now, and use it with my transmitter projects..

Works well. Assembly was reasonably easy.

I learned of the QRPoMeter from a favorable review on eHam.com. I ordered it because the product seemed to fill a need for a compact and relatively rugged instrument for measuring power out and VSWR of my QRP rigs and antennas. Also, I am an avid and experienced builder of electronic kits.

The QRPoMeter went together without a hitch and it looks and works great. It will go with me to the field when I play with my QRP rigs and test portable antennas.
