Link port mod for the original Super GameBoy

The original Super GameBoy cartridge did not have a link port for multiplayer gaming, like the later Super GameBoy 2 cartridge did. This board allows you to add a link port without having to destroy an existing console. This board uses a GBA-style connector, because that's the only one I'm able to source as new parts at this point. The GBA link port is fully compatible with GBC link cables, which is what the SGB2 used for its port. GBA cables, however, will not work (even though they will physically fit into the port).

2024 Update: I have finally managed to source proper GBC style port connectors. However, they are considerably more expensive than the GBA style, so I am offering both options, with the GBC connector costing a bit more due to the higher price of the part.

This mod is intended to be paired with the SGB Clock Mod, otherwise the incorrect clock speed may cause desyncs when paired with properly-clocked consoles.

The Flex PCB adapter is an optional add-on which makes installation much easier. It is not necessary, but installing this mod without it requires manually soldering several wires directly to the small pins on the CPU.

Upgrade your regular Super Game Boy into a Super Game Boy 2

This kit is great, its relativity easy to use. The boards are well labeled and the documentation is reasonably clear.
This it of course assumes you have experience soldering, can solder some fine pitch pins. The documentation also assumes you have a basic grasp of hobby electronics.

You also need Super GameBoy Clock Mod, which qwertymodo also sells to avoid any desyncing issues.

Note: Not a minus but something to to take notice. The board for the link port socket comes with 2 plastic stand offs.
I found the stand offs are too tall when installing them into a Japanese Grey Super Game Boy, I ended up using some plastic nuts and washers to mount the board slightly lower so I can get a good fit. Of course the End User is responsible how they implement the instillation of this kit.

Thanks for the feedback on the standoff height. As you probably guessed, I only tested the installation fit in a USA cartridge shell. I will try to get my hands on a PAL or JPN cart and see about sourcing some mounting hardware to fit those shells (I believe they are both shaped identically).
