A later design is now available: SC723

This backplane is designed for RC2014 and features:

• 3 x RC2014/80 pin module sockets
• Power supply input
• Very small size

Why have a huge backplane when a minimal system can be built with only a couple of modules? With three modules you can build a CP/M system, as illustrated.

This backplane is ideal for a minimal system and lends itself to being used in a small enclosed system.

Compatibility

This backplane conforms to the RCBus specification v1.0, except it was designed before the specification was written and thus has a few differences. It uses pins 40 and 80 (assigned as user pins) as a daisy chain and it does not support the daisy chains at pins 38/39 and pins 42/43. As it only has three module slots the daisy chains are not likely to be needed.

The RCBus specification includes RCBus-2014 (both RC2014 standard 40-pin bus and RC2014 enhanced 60-pin bus) and also the full 80-pin RCBus. The 80-pin RCBus provides support for advanced Z80 features, such as the interrupt daisy-chain, as well as support for other processor families.

The kit

This kit includes all the components needed to make the backplane, as shown in the first picture. Other modules and backplanes shown in the pictures are not included. You will require tools, solder, and cleaning materials to assemble this kit.
