This module houses a Z180 family CPU (Z8S18033), an 18.432 MHz oscillator, two FTDI style serial ports with software controlled baud rates, and a voltage supervisor and reset chip (DS1233).
The Z180 has a memory management unit, supporting up to 1M byte of memory. A suitable 1M byte memory module is SC119.
In order to support the extra address lines needed for 1M byte of memory, a suitable backplane is required, such as SC112 or SC701.
This module conforms to the RCBus specification v1.0, except it was produced before the specification was written and therefore some signals that might be expected, such as INT1 and INT2, are not connected to the bus.
The printed circuit board outline conforms to the RC2014 standard for full height modules.
This module requires an 80-pin backplane, such as SC112 or SC701, and a suitable memory module, such as SC119. RC2014 backplanes are not suitable as they do not have the required extra pins.
The RCBus specification includes RCBus-2014 (both RC2014 standard 40-pin bus and RC2014 enhanced 60-pin bus) and also the full 80-pin RCBus. The 80-pin RCBus provides support for advanced Z80 features, such as the interrupt daisy-chain, as well as support for other processor families.
The documentation can be found at www.scc.me.uk or by following the link below.
The kit includes a Z8S18033 CPU which is rated at 33 MHz. This gives the possibility of being able to overclock the system to 36 MHz using the CPU's software selectable clock multiplier. This is in no way guaranteed to work!
The kit contains everything you need to build the CPU module, except solder, tools and cleaning materials. To use the completed module you require a suitable memory module, a suitable backplane, a USB to serial adapter (5-volt power and 5-volt signals), a computer, and a terminal program (such as Tera Term).
If you have any doubts about sourcing a suitable USB to serial adapter, you might like to include this option with your kit.
The printed circuit board is available on its own here.
