What is it?

This is a weather station kit for wind monitoring. It provides real-time wind status, together with the temperature and humidity/air pressure, to the AWS server, and thus to help the sports enthusiasts know if it is a good day for sports, such as the sailing. Users all over the world can get the weather status through the AWS server with Internet. This kit is also intended to help starters to learn about IOT hardware and related programming. With the same method, users can integrate any local data and share it on the internet with people with similar interests.

Why did you make it?

In Shenzhen, there are many beautiful beaches. In the summer days, my favorite sport is sailing.

For the sailing sport, I am still a starter, I like the feeling of the seawater touching my face, and more, I've made many new friends with this sport.

But for the sailing sport, the proper wind is very important. Many times when we got to the beach, we found that there is no wind, or too much wind for me as a starter. And with the official weather forecasting, it is impossible for them to forecast/monitor the wind.

So I plan to make a real-time wind station, and to share the info with all Shenzhen sailing enthusiasts.

What makes it special?

The wind station reports the the wind/temperature/air pressure to the MQTT, and then subscribes it in AWS, so the weather status can be accessible all over the world. In my own application, my server is at: http://34.220.205.140:8080/wind
