What is it?

Power supply module for Pi-Zero, Pi-Zero W/WH.Up to 2.4A output current. Even 900mah can work more than 4 hours with zero W.

What makes it special?

It supplies power through bottom of GPIO and does not occupy GPIO pins. Therefore, it’s totally compatible with other piHats. You can use PiSugar2 even when your pi zero has no GPIO header. It’s possible to keep your pi project in the minimum size.

Easy to Install: install in one minute. No soldering required. Use special pogo-pin to supply power,does not occupy any GPIO of Raspberry Pi, can be use on pi both with or without GPIO header.
Perfect Size: standard dimension of raspberry pi zero. You can easily put your prototypes in small cases. Easy, and graceful.
UPS function: Pisugar2 support UPS function.When the external power supply is powered off, it can maintain the uninterrupted operation of the equipment, and safely shut down when the power is too low

Installing the software

PiSugar2 will actually work straight out of the box, with no software, to power the Pi and for some other basic functionality. However to get the most out of PiSugar2 you really need to install the software packages. For PiSugar2 we have created a Raspbian shell to make it extra simple.

At the command line simply type:

wget http://cdn.pisugar.com/release/Pisugar-power-manager.sh -O- | sh

Then you can visit Raspberrypi:8421

(For example: 192.168.1.1:8421)

Notice：

In the new version, we replaced the power indicator LEDs with the charging indicator LEDs, and added a custom battery charging management function.

PiSugar 2/PiSugar 2pro uses the I2C interface to communicate with Raspberry Pi, the address 0x75 for power IC, the address 0x32 for RTC IC.

Please confirm those addresses do not conflict with any device that you are going to use.

Battery arrived slightly damaged, but support team was quick

Received the PiSugar2 2 days ago, am loving it. The battery arrived bent, when I contacted the PiSugar team they immediately offered to send a replacement. Great customer support! Shipping was good too, for where I live at least.

Nice product, long delivery (NL)

They have a great support

Ordered two (for pwnagotchis), and i bothered the hell out of questions on their support email and they answered every single of my noobs questions, even those not related to their product.

Since it's a compact electronic piece you gotta be careful while using it as usual, but it serves well and has nice functions.

Pisugar 2 battery pi zero, is okay but could be better

In our project we where looking for a pi zero with battery, on/off button, and easy charging.

The Pisugar2 has only an OFF button (if manual configured like that). The ON function is not (yet) implemented.
The OFF button is positioned on the long side of the pi zero. Because the assembly (pi zero plus battery) is build in a hand-grip, it would be more convenient having this functional button on the same side as the SD card.

What and how to program the button with shell scrips is a total mystery for raspberry pi Dummy's. Samples of shell scrips for programming the button would be very helpful. The first time customer now is left in the dark.
A good product with a lot of potentials but also a product with missed chances.

Great product in a small format

I purchase this product for my rasp pi zero, and it was amazing, the package was well sealed and protected. The battery last with full charge at least 4hrs. I can't wait to try to use some wireless recharging tool or something similar.

Great product.

I am enjoying my pisugar. I am having some issues trying to get all of the features working, but that might be more a problem with my level of skill with raspberry pi's and adding plugins and scripts. They do update the features regularly and I reached out for help with my issues.

Good concept, nice form factor, strange software

Let me start by saying that the hardware part is a nice looking solution with some smart solutions, like the pogo pins to connect to the Pi Zero, the threaded inserts to screw onto the Pi Zero and the magnet to hold the battery. The board looks professionally made, I have no doubts about the quality.

However there are some decisions made which I don't understand:
* Why an RTC SD3078 which is not supported by the Raspbian/Raspberry PI OS? If you really want to have proper OS support for the RTC you have to recompile the OS kernel.
* Why a Web UI to control the board, and not some CLI commands, in my opinion the software side is not very well thought out.
* Software is written in an obscure language called Rust. A Python version of the software is deprecated, while Python is a much wider adopted programming language.

I hope the OS kernel will eventually support the used RTC and the software will improve in the future, because for now this is not a proper implementation

it is a nice little device

This little pisugar 2 has everything my project needs. the onboard RTC and the buttons are nice plus 5 hours of battery life. I built portable media player with this board, a raspberry pi zero WH and a a small phat that has a display and a decent DAC chip. it was easy setting up the pisugar 2 the way i wanted using web browser based setup tool.
needless to say this little board made my project work and now i have a portable media player and wireless access point that is about the size of a pack of bubblegum!

Great product, great customer service

For the short amount of time I got my Pi working with the PiSugar2, it was great. I then went and kept fidgeting with the setup until, completely due to my own stupidity, I screwed up the board. The PiSugar team bent over backwards to help me fix the problem. Thank you, and if you're looking to power a Pi, PiSugar should be at the top of your list.

Great product, lots of potential

Great product, I love how compact it makes my project. Very nice production quality & aesthetics. I have not had time to play with the power manager yet, but it looks interesting. I will definitely be keeping any eye out for future products from this team.

A very neat product, even if it took a while to get here!

A great solution for powering a Raspberry Pi and really simple to get working - literally just screw it on to the Pi and flip the switch. Works great with a Pwnagotchi and there are plugins on Github for reporting battery levels etc on screen.

Took a long time to arrive in the UK (2+ months), but understandable given the pandemic. The seller was quick to ship it out and kept in contact throughout to check on the package's progress. Overall very happy!

works like a charm

Great communication with seller (due to payment struggles by tindie). Got shipped well packed in an antistatic bag within a box surrounded by bubblewrap and carton. Came with screws and nice quick install guide. Li-Ion battery was fully charged on delivery.

This is the battery solution you're looking for!

I've been looking for a good battery solution for a while now. I've tried building projects with a powerbank, with the Pimoroni LiPo SHIM and now with PiSugar 2. This is so far my favorite. It is not only a battery solution, it is so much more!

It is:
* A battery and...
* The "PCB" needed to "receive" the battery
* The "other PCB" that charges the battery
* RTC
* Timer (you can tell it to boot at a certain time)
* UPS functions (safely power down at low %)
* An extra, programmable button

PROS
* I like that it is built as a product. It is complete: there's a homepage, there's an install script, you can change some settings via a Web UI. It is kind of beginner friendly. I'm recommending this to my friends who don't want to solder.

CONS
* I'm not quite sure that the Web UI is secure. It is not a big problem. I just added a couple of lines in iptables and use the Web UI via SSH tunneling. But you need to keep this in mind if you're gonna build something that needs to be secure.

SO YOU KNOW... (GOTCHAS)
* You need to get a case for this. I strapped it to my RPi Zero (with extra rubber bands) and had it one day in my pocket and another day in my backpack. The battery is fit with a magnet, it is a neat solution. But as your RPi + PiSugar moves around, the pogopins tear on the black paper around the battery. It is only a matter of time until you realize that this kind of needs a case. So you know...

For reference: I choose the "premium" shipping with DHL. The shipping was fast, I got a small customs fee. I'm quite satisfied with this arrangement.
