What is it?

Its a simple mixer. Its got 5 inputs and two outputs, which can be configures as one inverted and one noninverted or two noninverted, and/or as mono or stereo outs. Used in modular synthesizers for combining either audio or CV signals.

Why did you make it?

In my ongoing youtube series Modular in a Week I make a lot of modules, and a few of the first simpler ones I try to make even simpler by making a simple to solder and affordable diy kit. And a mixer is such a useful and much needed part of the modular, but at the same time not a module you'd want to spend too much money on.

What makes it special?

The price mainly I guess. It is a plain vanilla two inverting opamp summing mixer.

A few things to consider, extras, mods, additions etc:

There (will be) an expander module to expand the number of channels with 7. You can add as many expanders as youd like for a really massive mixer. Bear in mind that each additional signal input also raises the noise floor. [link to this product when it is online]
The pots are all LINEAR, this means a very sharp response when working with audio signals. It is possible to add a resistor in series with the pot for a "fake logarithmic" curve. (This is a mod you can do yourself)
The jacks in this mixer is stereo jacks! Used as mono racks as they usually are in modulars. This is again to keep the price down. Bear this in mind when you decide if you want to buy the parts aswell or if you want the more quality thonkiconn jacks instead (which you can buy in a lot of places, but not here)...
Since it is stereo jacks there is an optional welding pad to make the outputs stereo out.
Since inverted output isnt always wanted another welding pad is added to set the optional output jack to either inverted out or a 2nd output (not buffered from the first).

Communication has been great and the youtube tutorials are extremely informative and easy to follow. Easy to build even though its been a year since my previous build.

Highly recommend and I hope Sourcery Studios will release more fun DYI's to play with!

An excellent little mixer. Easy to build and easy to use!

This kit is easy to build, and the mixer is great. Would recommend! I bought two at once, and one kit arrived without the stereo jacks it needs, but Kristian was quick to respond and put the jacks in the mail asap!

Excellent!

Great little mixer. Parts are good, design is good and the options for modifying the output are very handy. This was shipped very quickly, good packaging. All in all a great module!

Good cheap solution for all your mixing problems

This was a nice easy build.. clear with video next to it, but would have preferred a little more documentation than only the schematics. Print-out has my preference with building over a video, but that could be personal of course ;-)
The only problem what I have with it; the holes are drilled in a unlucky fashion so that's it taking extra space in my eurorack, but hey for this price you can't complain too much right? :)

Great little mixer for a great price! Good beginner DIY kit.

I gave shipping 4 stars rating since it was included, but shipping from Sweden to West Coast Canada took 33 days. This was somewhat expected, but still sucks when you are waiting for a new project to show up...COVID delays are real folks, lol. Kristian was super responsive and helpful when I contacted him, which is great.

The instruction video for building this is good. This is a pretty simple DIY project. It has a couple tight spots, but nothing to be concerned about. This thing can be customized in several ways to suit your needs, and you can go back and change it fairly easy if you want to. This is a great project for beginners, totally recommend it.

Thanks for a great little kit!

Does precisely what it says on the tin!

It's super cheap, very easy to assemble, and is extremely small. Not the flashiest module in the rack, but just try doing anything without a mixer! There was a video tutorial the demonstrated every step of the assembly process clearly, as well.

Great mixer, well worth the money

Easy to build, the V1.4 video talks you through the whole process - though as another buyer mentioned, soldering the jack grounds is a little fiddly, I found soldering cut leads to them before soldering them to the board was the easiest way. And the parcel made it to the uk within a week, great.

Not bad, room for improvement

Assembling the mixer was quick and easy although you need to follow the schematics instead of a PCB diagram, so for beginners without electronics skills this could be a big challenge. On the schematics some caps had different values, even on the revision notes, so prepare for some surprises along the way. Also keep in mind that although this is a kit, there is no power cable or screws in box, which I kind of expected.

Lovely simple mixer

Excellent simple mixer you can put together quickly.

One minor note would be the documentation and video are for an eariler version of the board so you need work out the difference yourself.

Also, easier to put in the grounding for the sockets as you go rather than leave them all till the end - but to be fair maybe that is just personal preference!

Worked first time and does exactly what it says on the tin!

An excellent mixer, simple to build & easy to use! The existing build video is out of date but covers all the basics for building it. I love the ability to have the stereo and inverted outputs. Works a treat, however i may end up switching out 2 of the 10K resisters for higher versions for hot modules (as described in the video).
