What is it?

Simply put, its a LED beacon that flashes in darkness in response to torch light. The Cache Light can be placed pretty much anywhere so long as light can get to it and it will be visible for at least 25 meters in clear air. Power is provided by a 2032 button battery using the socket on the board or your battery of choice with some addition wiring.

Why did you make it?

Addiction to travel in odd places that others might go. I like leaving a light trace Geocaching and I brought something similar as a kickstarter project a few years back. I felt that I could improve on the original design and add some extra functionality while reducing the power requirement and the form factor to make it easier to carry and hide.

What makes it special?

Ease of use and simplicity to set up. There are a number of operating modes to conserve battery life and reduce the "can't find it" factor. The modes are set by old fashioned shunts on the board. Power is also connected using a shunt. A test flash pattern aids in optimal placement.

Modes

Mode One
Cache Light beacons out with a LED flash every 10 or so seconds and a short LED Flash every time light from a torch falls on it. This makes it easy to find for those with little patience but consumes the most amount of power.
Mode Two - No beacon and the Cache Light responds to torch light only with a short LED Flash.
Mode Three - Cache Light Beacon out with a LED flash every 50 or so seconds and a very short LED Flash. This makes it easy to find for those with little more patience but consumes power.
Mode Four - No beacon and the Cache Light responds to torch light only with a very short LED Flash. Miserly use of power.
