An adorable but mischievous cat who feeds on electricity, using every bit of energy left in discharged batteries.

An energy harvesting friend

Insert your discharged AA battery (or AAA using the optional adapter) from your remote controller, multimeter, or other appliances, to give it a second life and light up the eyes of the Cat! But first you must help him get his parts back in place!

The Joule Thief Cat is a beginner-friendly soldering kit. All the parts are through-hole, and are included.

Fairly easy build, great desktop amusement

I initially bought this for one of my kids, but it has remained in my office on my desk using up the last bits of life in batteries that formerly powered our many electronic devices. I would say a functional build is possible for a beginner to soldering, but the cleanest looking result might require slightly more skill. The instructions are straightforward and the quality of the components is top notch. Has been in almost continuous use for seven months without a problem.

Slow shipping, but AWESOME!

This was the very first thing I ever bought from Tindie and I must say it is awesome. Took maybe 10mins to assemble and now I think it is a permanent fixture - it's seriously cute. The shipping was quite slow but when it arrived it was well packaged (seriously) and the documentation was top-notch. Thanks heaps for this awesome little project!

None delivery of goods and very poor seller communication.

Two weeks after ordering this item and it still has not arrived.
Contacted the seller to confirm that this item was shipped and had NO response.

Another awesome Tilde project

My package arrived in a protective bag from the mail, and as it seemed the batteryholders ripped out of the package in transit. But as expected the Tilde people resolved the problem swiftly. Instructions to build the cat are very simple and clear. Winding the coil is the trickiest part of the project, I only managed to push 9 loops through. The festive hat (add-on) is a very nice touch, but it was a bit tricky to put together (had to cut away on the inserts a little bit) Did not spoil any of the fun though.

The cat, once risen from the dead on an old battery, will show you her glowing eyes for hours and hours :-)

You need this in your life

All projects by Tilde are true pieces of art, and the Joule Cat really takes the hat so far.

Amazing to look at, and great to learn how to solder with. Instructions are clear and have step by step picture guides.

Joule Thief Cat Kit

A good looking kit, the only challenge to building it is winding the little torroid. It works down to about 0.4V, so it is a decent Joule Thief. At 1.5V it draws about 120mA and the eye LEDs have a nice orange glow.
