In this, the first of 14 DIY Construction Pinball Machine Subassembly Kits, You’ll build one of the 3 types of ball hitting Targets. Kit #1 is a Moving Target – called the Servo Targets sub-assembly. The two other types of target sub-assemblies you’ll build in future kits are: Opto-Targets, and Micro-Targets.

In all 14 subassembly kits, there are five Making activity types:

1. Wood & Plastics assembly - no cutting required (these parts are precision laser-cut and fit together perfectly)
2. Electronics assembly - there will be the need to solder through-hole components onto printed circuit boards (no surface mount components are used)
3. Electro-mechanics assembly (e.g., wiring, motors, switches, connectors)
4. Microcontroller Coding (an Arduino UNO microcontroller and inline USB Volt/Amp meter is supplied)
5. Graphic and/or Sonic Artwork design (information about where to get free graphic artwork and DIY artwork design software tools is provided)

All Kits include FREE access to Assembly Instructions Video Tutorials. These videos also provide Beginner Skills and Knowledge Training. Once you've purchased Kit 1, you will need to signup (for free) online as a member of Engineering Project Kits to receive access to these videos.

The 14 subassemblies will need a laser-cut plywood cabinet and playfield for them to be mounted. The playfield and cabinet parts are available in Kit 15. Kit 15 can be purchased at the same time as Kit 9. This will ensure the entire pinball machine assembly is finished by the end of Kit 14 construction.
