What is it?

This is a CPU Odometer that counts jiffies (centiseconds) that your CPU cores spent computing. You plug it into an onboard USB2 port of your Linux computer.

Why did you make it?

If my computer is working hard, I want to see that counter tick! I made it, because I could!

What makes it special?

If you mount this odometer in your Linux PC, your computer will look like an old-school super computer. And it gets that scientific look. Heck, it would not look out of place on the deck of Starship Enterprise, if you ask me.

What is supplied?

This odometer comes with a 4(5)-pin USB cable to plug it into your motherboard. The mounting bracket for use in a 5.25" drive bay is optional.

How do I use it?

You need to install the open source turboledz daemon for Linux.

How does it work?

The value shown is seconds spent computing and is displayed with 2 decimals. It can count up to 1 trillion seconds of compute.

The turboledz daemon will aggregate all your CPU cores, and sees how many jiffies (centiseconds) were spent computing (system time and user time.)

If your PC is idle, it will tick very slowly.

If a 32-core machine runs at full blast, 100% pinning all cores, it will tick with 32.00 units (compute seconds) per second.

The Linux daemon will save the odometer value between reboots on your system.

The device uses approximately 100mA at 5V (0.5Watt)

Configuration options

You can get a TurboLEDz ODOMETER in the following colours:

• RED LEDs
• GREEN LEDs
• YELLOW LEDs

You can optionally get a 5.25" drive bay bracket for the unit, for easy mounting in a PC case with bays that have open slots to the front.
