I designed this board because i wanted to trigger various things from motion, but wanted the sensor itself to be as small as possible. This allows the sensor to be placed in a small 3D printed case and placed/hidden anywhere you want.
In order to trigger other things you need to trigger them via a number of services like MQTT or use the RX/TX pins as GPIO pins when they're not being used to program the board.
Q: How much power does it use?
A: To connect to Wifi and send a MQTT message it uses about 42ma. The duration of the connection will depend on your WiFi signal strength.
In deep sleep it uses about 57uA. This is mainly from the PIR sensor. They do make PIR sensors that consume less deep sleep current but they're considerably more expensive. This PIR sensor I've chosen is a happy balance between affordable and good power consumption.
Q: Ok, but how long will it last on a battery?
A: Great question! And an important one. There are a lot of factors that contribute to the battery life, mainly how often it detects motion and connects Wifi. For the sake of an example. If paired with a 1500mah lipo battery and it triggers 20x a day it would last for over a year!
again this is extremely dependent on how often it triggers, your WiFi signal strength and what you have it programmed to do once its been triggered.
Disclaimer! Only use LiPo batteries that have a built in over/under voltage protection circuit in them. And check that the LiPos connector has the correct polarity before use. Otherwise you risk damaging the LiPo or the board itself
Q: Can I connect other sensors to the pins?
A: YES! while it appears that only GND,3.3V,RX and TX pins are broken out, you can use the RX & TX pins as regular IO pins when they're not being used to program the board. RX = IO20 & TX = IO21.
Q: Whats on the the board?
A:
Q: What is not on the board?
A:
In order to program the board you will need an external serial adapter like a FTDI adapter or equivalent. (NOT INCLUDED). FTDI Adapter - Amazon
