Read More…Harness the power of USB Power Delivery (USB PD) power supplies from the convenience of your Arduino code! The ESPPD contains everything you need to create great hardware that can draw up to 20V and 3A from a compatible power supply. Features include:
USB PD supplies are common, powerful, and inexpensive, but traditionally really hard to use because the protocol is quite complicated. Being able to request any supported voltage from a wired power supply or power banks opens up all kinds of opportunities for projects that are not easy to build using a plain ESP32.
The ESPPD features a clever set of jumpers that allows you to either hardcode a specific voltage or connect the voltage configuration signals to the GPIO pins of the embedded ESP32 chip. This allows you either maximize the number of GPIO pins available for your application, or dynamically select a voltage based on your needs via code—we even provide a convenient library that takes care of all the details for you!
The board also includes a Power Good signal that you can use to verify that the power supply is providing you with the voltage you actually requested.
The ESPPD draws its own internal power from the USB PD input using a step-down buck regulator that can safely withstand all the way to 20V of input voltage without overheating or sustaining damage. The board also makes available a regulated 3.3V power source that can draw up to about 1A that's perfect for powering your peripherals without having to build a separate regulator.
Both the ESPPD hardware and software are released under the MIT license; all the schematics, production files, and source code are available on the project's Github repo and can be incorporated in your designs free of charge or royalties.
