What is it?

This is a pen plotter controller that uses the ESP32 microcontroller and TMC2130 stepper motors drivers. The ESP32 runs Grbl_ESP32 which allows you to run your machine wirelessly from your phone or PC via Bluetooth or Wifi. You can also stream via USB or micro SD card. The TMC2130 stepper drivers run your stepper motors super quietly and you can completely configure them via software (no more pots and jumpers).

You can buy a programmed ESP32 or supply the ESP32 yourself. All proceeds from the ESP32 are used to fund the Grbl_ESP32 project. You must also supply the motor drivers. You can only use Trinamic motor drivers (in SPI mode) on this controller. Other drivers, such as the Allegro A4988 and TI DRV8825 will not work.

Why did you make it?

Pen plotters are super cool and they deserve a powerful, yet super quiet controller. Profits are used to support Grbl_ESP32 development.

What makes it special?

It has the following features.

Runs Grbl_ESP32. It can use either the 0.9" wide or 1.0" wider 38 pin ESP32 modules.
Uses state of the art TMC2130 motor drivers.
Micro SD card socket. You can upload files to the card and start your project without any wired connection. You don't need to stay connected while the machine is running.

(1) Hobby servo connector
On board 5V 3A step down power supply. Plenty of power for your hobby servo.

The project is open source and well documented. Feel free to make your own.

The footprint for the stepper drivers no include the diag pins
Added jumpers to optional connect diag pins to limit pins
Grounded TMC2130 N/C pin to make it compatible with TMC5160 drivers
Added 5V output (fan connector)

Really nice setup

Board is great, repos have docs and the seller has a great channel for communication where they are really responsive.

Great product, fast shipping, full documentation

Wonderful board and great documentation. I had some pre-purchase questions and post-purchase questions. All answered in a timely, friendly manner.
I have more to learn about grbl32 before I can fully put this board to use in a sand plotter.

If this board fits your needs, buy it. You'll not be disappointed.

Great product and service

After a few initial errors on my part I needed serious assistance in fixing my own stupid errors.
Bart was responsive, and sent a link to slack, where he showed unending amounts of patience in talking me through repairing my own mistakes.
Outcome is I now have the pen plotter fully functional, and working silently.
This video a great for a simple laser diode machine and I'm getting great results using this board.

Awesome Product

Using to replace the awful controller on a stock k40 laser. Bart is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. Loved the quality of the kit. It is all very well thought out and look forward to getting some custom work done for some industrial projects in the future.
