These are designed as a drop-in replacement for the original aging and power hungry ROMs. Unlike other designs and 28 to 24 pin EPROM adaptors, these hide all the ugly stuff out of sight to provide the cleanest possible look.

Power consumption is around 5mA (25mW) vs the 70mA (350mW) of the original mask ROMs. As such these run completely cool and consume a fraction of the power, ensuring they will almost certainly outlast all the originals and help lower the overall tempreature of your machine.

The character ROM comes in two flavours:

• 901225-01 - Standard drop-in replacement
• 901225-01+ - Switchable between regular C64 font and PET style font

901225-01+ includes a small switch mounted on the bottom of the PCB. It is safe to switch fonts while the machine is running, but as the PET font is quite narrow it may not be legible on certain C64 and display combinations (probably why Commodore didn't use it to begin with). For best results, an RF modulator replacement is recommended.

The 1541 Kernal/Hi-ROM also comes in two flavours:

• 901229-05 - Standard drop-in replacement
• 901229-05+JIFFYDOS - Switchable between the standard ROM and 1541 JiffyDOS

901229-05+JIFFYDOS includes a licensed version of JiffyDOS for fast disk access. It also includes the regular 901229-05 1541 ROM, either of which are selectable using a jumper on the PCB. Pin headers were chosen to allow easy wiring to an external switch if preferred, although I've never found an issue with JiffyDOS always activated on the 1541.

Note while 1541 JiffyDOS will work with the standard C64 kernal, a JiffyDOS kernal in the 64 is required to take full advantage of JiffyDOS. Without JiffyDOS in the 64, the 1541 will run at the regular (slow) speed. You can use the 4 Kernal switcher (coming soon) for JiffyDOS on the C64 side.

I have chosen to handle purchasing of the JiffyDOS license for each ROM so you do not need to worry about it. I will not be providing ROMs that include JiffyDOS without a license, regardless of whether you already have a licensed version so please do not ask.

Note: These ROMs (except the character ROMs) are not suitable for the C64 shortboard rev. 250469 or the 1541-II

All boards are hand assembled and tested before shipping. As these are hand soldered, flux residue is included with every board at no additional charge ;-)
