Power tool batteries make for a standardized and ready choice to power a project, but when size is an issue, aftermarket adapters are more of a problem than a solution. They require a lot of clear space to load/unload and take up much more space than the battery alone, even when unloaded; mounting flanges increase project size; and being poorly molded, most require somewhat tricky reshaping with a pen knife to rightly grip the battery.

Else, there are terminal caps: two-handed operation and no battery retention - like a 9V connector, you still need a socket or battery shield/case. Not ideal for rechargeables, which are usually swapped frequently.

This is our take on a more functional alternative:

• Low-profile.
• Short-throw.
• One-handed.
• Front-loading.
• Minimal size.
• Potted terminals.¹
• And the mounting holes are sized for common wood screws.

Battery retention force is far greater than any aftermarket socket, adapter, or terminal cap we tested⁴ and loading/unloading can be done one-handed, without requiring fine motor coordination (eg. frozen, wet, injured, or gloved hands). Works with worn or broken battery tabs, because it doesn't use them at all. Works even if the "wings" break or loosen, since a groove in the terminal cap holds the BMS tabs very strongly.²

2P 28 AWG color-coded, PVC-jacketed, tin-plated, stranded copper wire. The wires are paired for routing convenience - you'll have to split them apart if they will be routed separately. Designed for at least 3A at 12V.³
