What is it?

This is an Arduino UNO shield that implements a high-voltage fuse programmer (often called Fuse Doctor) for classic AVR chips. It can resurrect bricked AVR chips that have the wrong fuses programmed. Since it contains a step-up converter, it does not need any external voltage source. It provides DIP sockets for all currently available AVRs with a DIP footprint, and it contains two SIL sockets that you can use to wire up chips with other footprints. The software (Arduino sketch) and hardware design (KiCAD design files) are open-source. The kit is easy to build since you only have to solder THT parts.

Why did you make it?

I wanted a Fuse Doctor that is easy to operate, covers all current AVR chips, and that does not rely on an external HV source. Since I had already written an Arduino sketch that can be used on an UNO using a breadboard, the design of the shield and adapter was straightforward and easy.

What makes it special?
