Unlike the Atari 600XL and 800XL, the Atari 130XE does not have a parallel bus interface or PBI. Instead, the cartridge slot has an extra connector next to it that is called the Enhanced Cartridge Interface or ECI. This adapter connects the cartridge slot and ECI to re-create the PBI on the Atari 600XL and Atari 800XL computers. So that you don't lose the cartridge port, an edge connector is provided for your cartridges.

There are two jumpers on this board. These jumpers are used to configure pins 47 and 48. On an Atari 600XL, pins 47 and 48 are +5VDC. These jumpers will be used, in the future, for an adapter card for the 1090XL.

Unfortunately, one important signal provided by the XL computers is not provided by a stock Atari 130XE. This signal can be re-added by connecting pin A, of the ECI, to to pin 16 of the MMU (U3 / CO61608) with a jumper wire. This will provide the missing EXTENB signal required by some memory upgrades.

In the near future, an adapter card will be released, for the 1090XL Expansion System, that will re-create the missing EXTENB signal. Once this card has been released, adding the aforementioned jumper wire will not be necessary.
