Filament Width sensor Kit Now with Blue PCB - Version 3.2 - latest code on Chip -

If you are going to interface this sensor to 3.3v logic you will need to wire a 3v3 zener across the v-out to limit the voltage to 3.3v.

AT-tiny85 - Pin 1 is marked with a square Pad. TSL1401 sensor - Pin 1 is the long pad !

Measure your filament width 1.75mm or 2.85mm with this sensor. Marlin must be configured to show the read width. otherwise, use the filament monitor kit or else just use your voltmeter!

The code has been totally rewritten and improved for the sensor to read more accurately!

3D Printer Filament Width sensor, with avr processor ATtiny85, the MCU measures the filament width by using the TSL1401CL sensor 128x1 chip.

A high brightness white LED on top of the tower casts the shadow of the filament on the TSL1401CL sensor which consists of a line of photodiodes. The MCU then outputs the corresponding width by a voltage ie.. (1,75 volts = 1,75mm). Marlin needs to be configured to read the width of the filament on the LCD. With this feature enabled the filament width compensation is used to compensate for the extruding speed according to filament diameter variations.
