What is it?

I2C-tiny-usb is a simple I²C to USB interface, designed by Till Harbaum. It's an open source design available at Github, with drivers for Linux (in the mainline kernel), Windows and Mac. Basically you can connect I2C peripherals to your PC with it, and on Linux it appears as a native /dev I2C device, so you can use i2ctools and libi2c with it. Ideal for developing/testing I2C related stuff (sensors, EEPROMs, etc) on your development PC while your target platform has native I2C port (like Raspberry Pi and alike).

Why did you make it?

After using a version built on universal PCB for years, I’ve decided that it deserves a proper PCB and an enclosure and some more features, so I gave it a redesign, and contributed back to the original project. The core of this version’s schematic pretty much follows the original design, but it has a 3.3V regulator and a level shifter, so it can directly work with 3.3V devices, and it has a LED on the I2C clock line. The board is designed to fit into the HM-1551GBK Hammond box, but I've also designed a 3D printable enclosure, see in the "enclosure" directory in the linked Github repo and on Thingiverse. I mainly want to sell the populated, tested PCB itself, but I also have a few Hammond boxes and (in case you don't own a 3D printer), I can also send a printed enclosure with the PCB, see at the product options. Also, I've got a simple self-adhesive label for the enclosure with the pinout, which I also post with the product, but also available in the git repo.

What makes it special?

It's a matured OSHW project, to which I wanted to provide a sturdy build to use it for daily work.
