What is it?

Sinclair Rom Cartridges for the Zx Spectrum Interface 2 have been, in my opinion, a must-have gadget: instant loading, sleek design, great games (but only a few titles released) and now, as an avid Sinclair collector, for their rarity. The price was high (for the 80s), at least compared to a game published on tape, and there was an awful technical limitation to maximum 16k games. Due to these limitations it was not a success and Sinclair stopped selling cartridges after the first 10 games.

Why did you make it?

My custom cartridge was born with the idea that it can be technically possible to make a cart as small as the original one with more selectable applications. It was not easy as i thought: original carts were built with the rom directly on the pcb; i wanted an EEPROM that could be easily programmed. Tested with Interface 2 and Ram Turbo!

What makes it special?

The resulting product, thanks to a particular rom socket, is as small as the original but with four roms:

ROMS can be customized, just send me what you want and i burn them before sending! Just remember that you can have four different 16K programs.

If you have an EPROM programmer you can save on the EEPROM your combination of favorited programs; just take out the chip, erase it and then flash it. Just remember that: You can put four programs each 16384 bytes long. To create the image to burn just concatenate them using the dos command line copy: “copy /b program1 + program2 + program3 + program4 binarytoburn.bin” With the switches you can choose which one to run. Remember to turn off your Zx Spectrum when you put or remove the Simple Rom cartridge from the Interface2 and when you select a different program to run.
