Description

This basic breakout board exposes all useful pins of the FTDI FT232RL USB to serial IC. The soldered female header matches the FTDI cable to work with official Arduino or cloned boards, and it can also be used for general serial applications with Raspberry Pi, ESP8266/32, etc...

We only use genuine FT232RL from officials supplies (Mouser, Arrow, RS, ...), and assembling all our boards in Spain to ensure the quality.

Bit expensive but almost perfect!

Bit expensive but top quality. Correctly implemented 3.3V / 5V switch that switches affects both the signal lines and the power supply.
Independent 3.3V 600mA regulator as opposed altenatives that use the internal 3.3V regulator that supplies only 50mA.
A small (mechanical) design tip to further improve: it looks like the micro-USB connector housing is soldered on SMD top pads only without via beneath. A few extra via's at each side would have made it stronger which is not a luxury having to support wear and tear by the USB cable.

Exactly what it says on the site

This is a genuine FT232RL. So documentation-wise, there's not much to say. You plug it into your computer and it works immediately.
This isn't the cheapest FTDI USB>UART, so why pick it? Well, for me the switch that allows you to use it for both 5V and 3.3V is an awesome feature. I don't know how many FTDI kits are out there with only one logic voltage level, but why do that? Sure, it's hardly complicated to set up a voltage leveller on your proto board, but you know what, when I just want to plug this in a debug something I don't want to have to mess around. If it's a feature that you would often use, you may as well have it as easy as possible and remove one additional source of error. So for me, the option to switch voltages easily makes this a must have product. The build quality is great, and this is a neat little tool to add to your collection.

Seems to be a genuine FTDI232RL

Seems to be a genuine FTDI232RL since I was able to program it using FTDI FT_Prog to invert the signal lines.
Soldering and registration appear to be good.
Arrived in 9 days (Spain to Boston).
