Features :

sensor pins are available on 4 pin header
SMD capacitors
Pre-programmed chip with detection of filament with for 1.75mm or 2.85mm
can be interfaced/connected to any ramps/etc board - output voltage is dependant to filament width
Requires 5 Volts supply -

If you need to experiment with it and need the chip to be accessible, choose option 1 for a socket on the board. the output and supply pins are available on the 4 pin header.

Concept of 3D Filament Width Sensor.

The unit works by using an led to throw light in a tunnel where the filament is being pushed. Beneath the filament there is a 400 dpi sensor that picks the shadow of the filament and the processor translates it to a working voltage. ie 1.75V = 1.75mm filament or 2.85v = 2.85mm filament.

Not accurate, can't be used...

Impossible to use it, the same filament can be measured from 1.60 to 1.84 !!
Contacted the seller, he told me to add 1K resistance to have a measurement between 1.71 and 1.79, but it solve nothing.

Doing more tests with an oscilloscope and explaining the problem to the seller, he told me it needs to change the processor !

This device is completely UNUSABLE, don't spend your money on it.

Good sensor

It is a little difficult to connect to the GT2560 board. You must to do a weld and it is not so easy. You must also know the board pinout to select the proper pin and assign it in Marlin.
Then a better info from the seller would be very useful for the user.
The device runs perfectly and it is a good option to forgive the filament width issues.

Good concept, but QC issues.

I bought this a while back and just now getting around to trying it out. Instructions needs to be improved, especially when using with the supplied LCD board. The main gripe is the path for the filament, it is too small. I barely got a 1.5mm rod through the guide. When you pay a good price for this, the product should be tested before sent to the customer. Yes, they give you the stl file, so be prepared to modify and reprint the filament guide piece. Also when buying the kit with the LCD board, there should be a header that would connect the sensor to the LCD board (with a voltage regulator for the 5V sensor).

Sensor filament sensor

Crappy 3d printed part.
Some adjustement to do.
The soldering is crappy too. A lot of burning brown mark on it. It's not affect the fonctionnality but looks bad.
And there is not the origin of the project on the paper. It will be usefull for fiemware modification and code understanding.
Okey product but need to have a some adjustement on the final touch and assembly to be a realy nice product.

Part is printed complimentary so don't complain.
Soldering is done from experienced 20 years in the field technicians . the brown stuff is the flux which is left after soldering - you can alcohol wash it !
Product works fine as described in the listing and this product is an improved version. completely re written code to get more accurate readings.
