The REDisp is a classic AVRisp programmer for programming ATMEL AVR chips with 64k of flash or less i.e. most of them. The Hardware is an adaption of the USBtinyISP system with influences from the FABisp project by David A. Mellis and identical firmware. All files and firmware are Open-Source and available via the source code link on Github. The Drivers are identical to the USBtinyISP and are therefore built in to the Arduino IDE and AVRDUDE - simply choose USBtiny as programmer. Drivers are not required for Mac or Linux and windows drivers are available from Adafruit here(Use the newest version). The 6pin ISP is ready to plug into your board with pin 1 marked by a white dot, Oh and choose you power LED colour too! instructions are on Instructables.
An AVRisp is the hardware standard programming interface for AVR chips, that has a similar interface to SPI. It removes the requirement for a bootloader and allows fiddling with fuse bits and other control parts of the chips etc. If you are planning to mess with these chips definitely get an ISP to program them, it's necessary for transitioning from an arduino board to a stand-alone Atmega which I expect is a major factor in buying an ISP. This ISP would be perfect to program my REDbitOne Atmega dev board that uses the same chip as an Uno.
I wanted a cheap, and I mean a cheap, but also a strong and powerful AVRisp, and of course it had to be as small as possible too. I honestly think this is the cheapest AVRisp that's out there. As well as that it is also thoroughly bypass capped, fused to protect from drawing too much current through your USB port and it's of course constructed by hand in the UK.
