Fast shipping and easy assembly

It came fast! I was shocked how fast it shipped. Assembly was easy. I made my frame from Hickory and put Purple Heart splines. Thanks seller it works perfectly and looks amazing. Will definitely order more. You do have to know how to solder and follow instructions.

Such a great product

This is the second kit I have bought, instruction videos on youtube are great and detailed. Frame kit is high quality and fits perfectly.
Everyone that sees it is amazed.

It works!

I bought this kit with the board/electromagnet pre-assembled, and it took about 3 weeks to arrive in the US. Packaging was nice and everything worked.

Note that even with the pre-assembly, you will need:

* LED strip
* Power supply
* Acrylic glue
* Ikea frame
* Phillips head screwdriver
* Drill with 2mm drill bit
* Sharp scissors or a saw for the spacer

(No soldering needed however)

I bought the 8x10" ribba frame from Ikea; contrary to the instructions, there was no need to cut it down.

The documentation was somewhat confusing and many of the steps were only shown in the Youtube video, so I had to pause it many times to follow along. It took me a while but was fun, and the final result worked amazingly.

Totally worth it: would sLOMO again!

I'm so glad that I found this kit: it is the real deal and I am doubtful that I would have pulled it off otherwise.

The parts arrived quickly and safely. If you're debating whether to get the assembled kit... get the assembled kit! It's been tested and is going to work.

I was a little concerned that the 8x10 frame design would be too small, but it's totally perfect for the illusion.

I docked some marks for documetation and communication. Let me explain...

The docs were a solid 3-4 stars. I think that they could benefit from a pass from an editor. I found myself jumping around a lot and watching the video numerous times to put everything in context and work out an order of operations. I am a reasonably confident creator so, like, I could piece it together. What I came away with was the feeling that it was written by someone who is so close to the ground that it is hard to appreciate what someone coming to the project new might have trouble understanding.

I found myself with all sorts of questions about what sort of bonding agent I should use on the acrylic, and what kind of LED light strips I should order.

I gave the Communication two stars because I never heard back any reply to my questions, which I submitted via Tindie. I reserve one star reviews for people who write back and tell me to GFY... soooo, radio silence is better than being called names. Still, if replying to questions is difficult, even better is to assertively copy answers to previously asked questions into the docs so that next time, people have no questions! It sounds crazy but it works.

All in all, this was great fun and my SO loves it.

Excellent Kit

Well documented and well designed. Not too difficult a build. I will have to do some experiments to see if I can dampen the noise a bit more. Foam tape supporting the electromagnet assy helped a bit, but I'd still like it quieter. Performance is good, though I might play with the scaling in SW a bit to get more control over the "slowest" range of the control.

Great seller, works great

Overall good project, would build again. A few things:
- Definitely get the add-on for the acrylic pieces. I built my own piece out of plastic and it took way too long, and looks horrible. Definitely worth the $20 in hindsight.
- I made a stupid mistake (forgot to install the Arduino Nano) and reached out to the seller, who helped almost immediately.
- The thing is cool, works as advertised, but keep in mind it does make a humming sound. The sound gets quieter if you add more stuff/more weight to the vibrating metal pieces, but I don't think I want this thing on 24/7, it would bother me.
- I had some trouble compiling/uploading the code, but got it to work, and I appreciate that the author has "modes" you can switch between using the button.

Great kit!

I put the kit together as a gift and the results were very impressive. I opted for the assembled option, so I only needed to glue the acrylic parts together, stick the LEDs on the picture frame, and attach things together. The LED strip I used ended up having wires already attached to both ends, so I didn't even need to solder anything!

The IKEA frames are not available where I live, so I chose the 8x10 Ribba frame option and bought this frame: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FYQR19J/
The opening in the mat was a bit smaller than the acrylic opening, but it worked out well. The frame is deep enough for two strips of LEDs.

Gluing the acrylic parts was probably the most time consuming step. I tried superglue at first, with poor results, then found out superglue is not recommended for acrylic. I ended up using a plastic glue with primer from the local hardware store, but the real acrylic solvent method shown in the video is probably much better.

It's been a lot of fun seeing how different plants, flowers, and feathers look with the slomo effect. Overall I'm very impressed by the kit, it is a great value for the price.

Awesome, quality product backed by great customer service

I was blown away by the level of quality and I would recommend buying the frame kit along with the electromagnet kit (the parts *can* be bought separately but do yourself a favour and just get the kit) and the back frame mount (this is essential imo).

I loved the kit so much that I bought two more to gift :)

Note that you need a 12v 2a DC power adapter to power it and some glue (preferably acrylic cement) to assemble the back frame mount.

Highly recommended!

I ordered the set with all parts and was very positively surprised. The delivery was not only very fast, the set was also completely pre-assembled with all the necessary parts.
I just had to get the frame and the LED.
The assembly itself was then very simple and quick.
Everything works straight away without any problems. I am very excited.

README! (Genrally Amazing!)

What you should know before you buy this (assuming you get all the kits).

You will need:
- an Ikea Frame (though now I think an old desk lamp would be soooo much nicer)
- a 1,5mm drill (if there is none for wood, get a metal one and be slow so it doesn't get hot and break)
- an LED strip (just tape 2 single row ones next to each other and connect + and - of both strips anywhere you want. I bought 2m in total an didn't have much to spare. I used this kind: https://i.imgur.com/cDqTKSG.png )
- a 12v power brick with a barrel plug (not share how many amps needed, I went with 1.5A I think)
- glue for acrylic (superglue works, but will look a bit dirty. But the glue won't be very visible anyways. Better: proper acrylic glue)
- a bit of wire (preferably two colors)
- I also had to trim the acrylic, the frame piece was too wide (eye-balled it with a jigsaw and a metal blade, slow and linear setting)

Additional notes on the documentation:
- with the big frame I don't think you have to trim the paper cutout
- you might want to trim the sockets pins flush *before* you solder them. At least on the side where the turn-knobs go. It will get very tight there later.
- be careful with the magnet placement so it fits the slots in the acrylic later (fine tune by bending so it fits, best done before you put the motor in)
- drill the holes for the screw that hold the frame inside off-center (otherwise your screw is not wide enough and will stick out the side of the frame)
- order on the frame is important: drill holes, put cutout, but LEDs (any other order and something might be in the way)

Other notes:
- before screwing it down the magnet assembly it showed a stronger effect
- I definitely want to do some more programming, I bet you can make a few more effects (I want add random jumping instead of just slow-motion)

Feedback to Vendor:
- documentation could be a little bit better (it's mainly 2 videos instead of small steps)
- laser cut didn't quite fit
- definitely there should be a "you will also need" list in the offer, I thought I get all I need and than had to wait for the other stuff I needed to order
- thank you very much for this beautiful kit, I love it

Great product, shipping took a while

Great Kit

Excellent experience from start to finish

I bought the sLOMO kit from JF recently, to make as a gift for my partner. I really do think it was very good value. Communication was prompt when I had an (insubstantial) concern about shipping. Shipping from Singapore was in fact reasonably priced and fairly quick- about 10 days.
The thing which struck me must about the kit is how meticulously, neatly, thoughtfully and securely it was packaged. Everything was in separate sealed bags, sized to suit. Everything was labelled. And it was laid out very sensibly so it was easy to tell at a glance that I had everything I needed. Similarly the instructions- an online instructible- shows the same level of care and attention to detail, including videos. This is really appreciated especially when I'm fairly inexperienced in electronics.
The supplied electronics and other pieces were of high quality and the board they designed is super. Everything's gone together without a hitch. I have already recommended JF to others and will be sure to get something from them again.

Very good diy kit

Kit comes with all the item listed. You will need to purchase led strip, power source and arduino source separately. Also make sure you have enough wires. Wish the kit comes with a detailed soldering instruction. I soldered the board by referring to the pictures online, which wasn't clear enough, but eventually I have managed to make the whole board.
Also in US, it seems difficult to find the exact frame size that would fit everything perfectly.

Great DIY Kit.

Good product, fast delivery documentation is nice

I bought and build and it work like a charm.

Fast delivery, well protected. Product as described.
The documentation is good, but for few details is might be tricky. Anyone can build it knowing basic soldering. But it is a challenging kit, so take your time and enjoy.

The pcb layout is good and clear, all pieces are good quality. The plastic frame is very neat.

The frame that a bought in IKEA is not perfect, and don't know if I was unlucky or not, but it is swollen a little. So it's not a perfect fit, however it is still quite good. The kit allow some room for error, just be careful when buying the frame.

I can't find double led strip so I double one strip and it work just well.

The electromagnet is quite strong and the result is not to noisy.

Overall, I'm very please with this purchase.
