What is the ChuckConnect Nunchuk Kit?

The ChuckConnect kit breaks out a Wii Nunchuck connector so you can use the Wii Nunchuck game controller in your DIY electronics projects with ease. When paired with an open-source library for your favourite Arduino, CircuitPython, or Raspberry Pi board, adding a feature-rich ergonomic input to your project only takes a few lines of code. Designed with your end-use case in mind, our custom mount can withstand everyday use without compromising the electrical connection.

Why use a Wii Nunchuck in your project?

A Wii Nunchuck incorporates several inputs that you can use in creative ways to control your project's functionality. These include a joystick, 2 push buttons, and a 3-axis accelerometer all in one ergonomic package that you can read via I2C, saving I/O pins. This is a great option for user input, use it to control an electric skateboard, a robot, a pan and tilt camera mount, or anything else you can dream up!

Why use a Nunchuck connector kit?

The connector on the Nunchuck is not easy to connect to, and soldering to the wires inside its cable is very labour-intensive and can lead to a fragile connection. A Nunchuck connector kit breaks out the connector into a familiar 0.1" header so you can use the ubiquitous jumper wires you already have on hand. Also, since the header is pre-soldered, you don't need to use (or own) a soldering iron before getting started on your new project.

Why the ChuckConnect kit?

Existing Nunchuck breakout alternatives tend to use a clever arrangement of exposed copper traces on a PCB instead of a female connector. While this works, it is not easy to mount securely and often relies solely on the header pins used in the electrical connection for structural support. Under heavy or repeated use, these are apt to break. This makes it difficult to panel mount and fails to take advantage of the Nunchuk connector's built-in locking mechanism.

The ChuckConnect kit alleviates these problems with a custom-designed 3D printed mount built around a proper Nunchuck connector, your connection is locked like it is on a Wii Controller and the bolts in the mount take the strain when a connector is plugged in or unplugged.
