What is it?
This is a Breakout board for the Lepton Thermal Camera Module. This board provides the socket, power supply's, 25Mhz Crystal Oscillator, 100 mill header for use in a breadboard or wiring to any host system such as an ARM based Arduino or a Raspberry Pi. The FLIR Lepton is an add on option.
The FLIR Lepton™ is the most compact longwave infrared (LWIR) sensor available as an OEM product. It packs a resolution of 80 × 60 pixels into a camera body that is smaller than a dime. This revolutionary camera core is poised to equip a new generation of mobile and handheld devices, as well as small fixed-mount camera systems, with thermal imaging capabilities never seen before.Lepton contains a breakthrough lens fabricated in wafer form, along with a microbolometer focal plane array (FPA) and advanced thermal image processing.
This board will accept from 3-5V input and regulate it to what the Lepton Module wants.
To read an image from the lepton module all you need is an SPI port.
To configure the camera settings you also need an i2c port, although this is not required.
The PCB has the same size and mount holes as the standard raspberry camera
The shuttered version of the lepton automatically does a flat field correction on power-up and when needed(This calibrates the sensor, reduces noise, and gets rid of the lines reported on some of the sensors). Overall it produces better quality images. (The shutter can be removed if unneeded or manually controlled via i2c)
Why did you make it?
There Currently are no other breakout boards for the Lepton Module. In addition the Lepton module requires a special socket to be used that is difficult to solder down (and hard to buy). This board make connecting the Lepton Module to something like the Raspberry Pi much simpler.

Perfect as always
Best breakout of any chip ever. Plugs directly into Nucleo 401 and 411 (no breadboard required!). I recommend using one of those boards since they are like $10, so you can verify you are doing stuff right before switching to a different board.

Flir Lepton with Breakout Board
Purchased this and just got it going thanks to the Sparkfun tutorial! Very nice and easy to setup.....going to purchase a demo cam to fit it in next.

As described, works well
This little board is a nice easy way to access the lepton module. It makes interfacing much simpler and just works out of the box. It's a little bit of a shame (for me) that it is configured to plug straight into an Arduino which is not big enough to handle the image data - would have been more useful (once again, for me) if the pinout lined up with a Raspberry Pi. Still, it was not a lot of effort to make an adaptor.

Here is an adapter that could work. http://www.dexterindustries.com/site/?product=arduberry-raspberry-pi-arduino-shields Also there are a bunch of arm based Arduino's that can handle the lepton data. I mainly use the STM32F4 nucleo boards because they cost only $10 and they plug directly into them. Thanks for the feedback.

The product is good, However during shipping some of the leads got bend.

Works perfectly, seller was very helpful
The board works fine, and by using the docs we got the lepton working immediately...
Ron at PureEngineering was very helpful, and they even managed to pack the sensors together with the breakout boards for me, so they arrived at the same time, although they were ordered on an another website.

Excellent board, great fun
Have this hooked up to a Raspberry Pi as a thermal imaging pet webcam. Was easy enough to get going, and there's an active support group in which the designer takes part.
