It's designed to require minimal wiring. Just plug in the live and neutral wire and the ESP8266 is powered up by the onboard AC to DC convertor. The board also has breakouts for most ESP8266 pins.
Once the loads are connected, the ESP8266 can control them through the relays.
The board will come with a CP2102 programmer for easy hacking. Here are some detailed instructions for the board.

Conventional home automation kits are super-expensive and do not have multiple switches. I wanted to make sure its small enough to go into the wall switch enclosures in my house, and also require minimal wiring.
The board design is open source and so is the firmware that will be on it. Imagine the possibilities when you have full control of the software that runs your home automation system.
