What is it?

A kit containing everything needed to make a Midimuso 12 channel MIDI to CV converter. Easy to solder with full, detailed instructions included. Does not include socket kits but they are available in my store and you can get started with just one set using Dupont cables to drive a monophonic synth (see diagram).

Features: Converts MIDI into control voltages and gates. Allows 1V / 0.5V / 1.2 V per octave conventions. 11 modes which offer a balance of pitch / velocity voltages / control voltages / gates. Monophonic / polyphonic modes (up to 6 note poly per board) Chainable: boards can be connected together to produce more outputs.

Includes the manual, the schematic and a continuity diagram.

Please note, this kit is incompatible with pre-ORAC boards which do not support chaining.

Why did you make it?

I made it to allow modular synth enthusiasts to inteface easily and cheaply between keyboards, computers and synths.

What makes it special?

Up to 12 control voltages simultaneously or up to 11 gates AND MIDI clock. (11 different modes which offer mixtures of gate, CV and clock) The IC has many modes for different uses. There is an easy to use online tool for easy CV-12 mode changes on the Midimuso site.

AMAZING value for a MIDI to CV kit!

After researching numerous MIDI to CV options, this kit seemed too good to be true. At about $30 USD, this was an obvious choice, although I was a bit nervous since I've never owned a MIDI to CV converter. Not to worry, though, the kit was easy to assemble (less than an hour to assemble, YMMV), and the hardest part was just carefully reading the documentation to understand how it operated (since I am a newbie to modular synths).

It was brilliant to have the board send a different voltage to each CV output, which made it easy for me to debug any errors in attaching the CV socket boards to the CV12. If you are using the product as it was intended, this would be a very quick job to finish. However, since the board had a nice modular design, I took the Port B outputs to an aux board (TOTALLY UNSUPPORTED configuration, BTW) to offset the signal by -5Vdc to accommodate the Moog Mavis. And it worked! It took several OpAmps and a charge pump for inverting the power, but it was a great learning experience and the CV12 was very resilient.

Easy build, some minor concerns

I bought a full kit for CV12. It arrived safely in a padded envelope.
All required components were provided. I did substitute 1/8 watt resistors for the included 1/4 watt parts at 100k ohms as the board was laid out for the smaller parts. Build documentation is clear. Have not tested the result.

Amazing device

Really good approach with those voltage dividers! Very stable frequency and no need to worry about DAC calibrations. Web tool is just awesome. Note to initial setup: the trick is to set exactly 10.6 volt as base voltage. You do need 15v adapter at least in USA. 12v is not enough. I also created an overhead PCB with opamp buffers. Will buy a few more soon.

Great product -- fills a definite need, economically

This was a fun project to build, and the CV12 chip definitely fills a need: converting MIDI to CV/gate, inexpensively and with a lot of flexibility. I built this and three of the sockets kits (for under $100) into an old NES cartridge case and that will fit my needs for a long time to come. Some simplified step-by-step-by-step building instructions would have helped me (as I'm a novice, for the most part), but I was able to figure things out using the photos and diagrams without any issues (so you probably can, too! :) ).
