What is it?

PUCK is a 1.6" diameter device that communicates with your iOS device via Bluetooth Low Energy, then transmits the signal to the target device (TV, DVD, etc.) using Infrared, just like a traditional remote. PUCK connects with your iOS or Android device via the PUCK Remote app, free on the App Store or Google Play.

By attaching PUCK directly to your target device, line-of-sight limitations are a thing of the past, which means no more wires!

Why did you make it?

I created PUCK after my daughter lost or broke several remotes. I wanted a solution that removed remotes from my life and allowed me to use my iPhone, something that is usually with me. Besides being convenient, PUCK eliminates line-of-sight control of traditional IR devices, so no more unsightly wires or electronics on display!

What makes it special?

PUCK has a replaceable coin cell battery and lasts over 6 months with regular usage. A single PUCK can control multiple devices (if within 24" of the PUCK IR beam), and unlimited PUCKs can be integrated seamlessly with the app. Whether it's controlling many devices in a sports bar or setting up a single home, using PUCK is a breeze.

The PUCK app connects to the closest PUCK by default and switching between active remotes is made easy by swiping left or right through the clean app interface.

Didn't respond reliably, not sophisticated enough

There was no documentation with the product. Barnabas at SmashToast has been very helpful and responsive, but unfortunately the Puck wouldn't even Blink reliably in response to the iOS app and the latest app update didn't resolve it. Also, it appears we'd need 3 Pucks to control our TV setup (TV, OTA-DVR, Blu-Ray player). It's too complicated for my dad to grasp. I got a Logitech Harmony on sale, which works out cheaper than 3 Pucks, responds reliably, and was simple to configure so it's easy for my dad to watch live TV or DVDs. Barnabas has offered to refund my purchase price upon return of the Puck (I pay return shipping).

In short, great support from Barnabas, but the Puck didn't work for me.

Thank you for the review, Michael. Sorry for the issues in setup - I've updated the iOS app that caused the blink feature to have a delayed flash. While we've made some changes to the iOS app to ease the setup process, I'm also working on some additional documentation to make the setup simpler. I appreciate your review and for taking the time to let me know where I can improve Puck!
