What is it?

Beaks is a really low cost version of the Mutable Instruments Peaks module. Using only thorughhole components this makes for an easy kit you can make yourself. One way to make this kit so cost effective is to remove the DAC circuits that are one of the most costly components in the MI modules. Instead a technique called Dual PWM is used to get almost the same high quality output. The STM32 chip is solved by using a generic STM32 development board that can be bought on aliexpress, ebay etc... TO BE CLEAR THE STM32 IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE KIT.

It is built upon the wonderful work of Emelie Gilet of Mutable Instruments, along with the modification of Mathias Levy who removed the DAC and used dual PWM instead. This PCB and panel set was designed by me. As per Emelie's request this is ofcourse fully open source as her open sourcing her work made this possible. Why did you make it?

When I was researching throughhole versions of Mutable Instruments modules I found Mathias Levys version and thought it was amazing. Although lacking the PCB-set to make it. So I went of to make that PCB set and this is the final product of that journey :)

What makes it special?

This is a REALLY lowcost version of one of Mutable Instruments versatile modules. Because its low parts count and extensive use of the PWM feature of the STM32 this makes for a really nice addition to your diy modular arsenal.

Amazingly amazing!

I bought the PCBs and LED switches only as I already had a good stock of the other components (had to order in some "B" STMs from ali was all). I speed watched the very excellent build video and then proceeded to put it together, only thing I did slightly different was to leave the outer edge STM female till last so it was easier to solder the panel components. The boards were well made and easy to understand and follow. Now I've got a super unobtainable Peaks for a fraction of the price and to my ears it sounds just as good. Well done Kristian for keeping the prices affordable and the kits available with the option to just buy PCBs only, it's a lesson that I wish a few more sellers would learn!

Good module for the great price

This a very friendly and pretty easy to build kit. The only trouble I had was with the led buttons. Don't be like me, check the video instructions to understand how to place them correctly :)

The module works and sounds really well (omg, those drums are massive)

awesome kit, awesome shop, 10/10 will buy again

OMG so Kristian is so cool, he labeled all resistors and caps so it was very easy to put it all together, also the pcbs are very well spaced and everything is clearly marked AND bonus you also have a building video to check anytime you feel lost. One of the best kit building experiences ever! And Kristian is one of my favorite DIYers and video content producers.
