Based on the MAXIM MAX1724 Step-Up DC-DC Converter, this board is a great addition to your prototyping tools.

The board accepts an input voltage of 0.8 to 5.5VDC, and outputs 3.3vdc at a maximum of 150mA (while source is 0.8 to 3v). This board is tiny! It measures just 1.5" by .5" This board is a great way to connect one to two alkaline or NiMH batteries, or even a single Li+ cell. The board even has a JST connector typically found on many single cell Li batteries.

The board has an extra set of headers to which you can solder battery leads for connecting to an AA pack as described above. The Shutdown pin on the regulator is wired to the BATT pin, enabling the regulator. You may cut the trace on the bottom of the board and use the SHDN header pin as your own ON/OFF control if desired.
