What is it?

A low cost entry into LoRa networks for beginners. Connects to The Things Network. No soldering. Easy setup and config in <=10 minutes. Some experience with the Arduino IDE is required. Check options for fully pre-configed setup.

Easy setup

Connect to USB for power.
Open the gateway Arduino sketch and enter your WiFi credentials & upload to Wemos D1 Mini.
Register the gateway on The Things Network.
Finished. Start the adventure!

Why did you make it?

Our local usergroup couldn't afford official TTN gateways, so YouTuber Andreas Spiess recommended an open source solution which we built upon.

What makes it special?

We use only through hole components Setup is quick, easy and little skill required.

How to install

Download & install Arduino IDE from http://arduino.cc
After Arduino IDE was installed, start it.
In the Arduino IDE, open menu Tools, Boards, Board Manager.
Find and install ESP8266 boards.
Download and install Github client from http://github.com.
Open GIT Shell, and do git clone https://github.com/things4u/ESP-1ch-Gateway-v5.0
Open windows explorer, copy the libs created by git to to your arduino/libraries (macOS, same procedure!)
Start ArduinoIDE, then open ESP-sc-gway.ino which was downloaded from git.
Choose the tabpage ESP-sc-gway.h
Find the line of code with "fire", "water"
Replace fire to your WiFi SSID & Password.

Connect the gateway (incl wemos!!) onto your computer.
Choose in the ArduinoIDE the relevant COM-poort(Windows) or /dev/whatever (macOs |linux).
Choose from the Boards list, Wemos D1 R1, and upload speed 256000.
Upload the sketch to the arduino.
After upload, open the debugwindow
Press the resetbutton on the Wemos.
In debug window should show a message about connecting to WiFi.

Note down the Gateway ID.
Make an account on The Thingsnetwork.org.
Open website https://console.thethingsnetwork.org/gateways
Choose option Register a gateway.
Put a checkmark next to I'm using the legacy packet forwarder.
Enter the Gateway ID into "Gateway EUI".
Add a description whatever you like such as "Easylab4kidsLora1234" 26 Choose frequency plan Europe 868Mhz
Now click Register gateway.
Go back to gateways, and you should see a green dot Connected

Congrats your gateway is online!!
