This is the kit version of the SquishBox. Once you assemble it, you'll have an add-on for the Raspberry Pi 3A/3B/4 or Pi Zero (not included) that provides high quality audio outputs, a 16x2 backlit character LCD, voltage regulation so you can power the Pi with a 9-Volt adapter, and breakouts for buttons, an indicator LED, and the Pi's serial port. While you can get these things by combining other hats/addons, this combines everything in the most compact way possible, and fits in a custom enclosure such that a Raspberry Pi can be easily plugged in and clamped in place by screwing on the lid.

I created the SquishBox because I wanted a software synth for playing live that was portable and easy to set up, and that I could customize exactly the way I wanted. Now I show up to a gig, plunk the SquishBox down on the floor or set it on an amp/table/keyboard and plug it in using a standard 9-Volt effects pedal power supply, plug in audio cables and MIDI controllers, and start playing. The FluidPatcher software I designed for the SquishBox uses the FluidSynth sound engine, with a vast library of soundfonts available on the internet (a healthy selection is included), the ability to play MIDI files and sequences, arpeggiate and loop notes, and use plugin effects - all set up using easy-to-read text files. I've created a series of lesson videos that teach you how to use all these features. The software for the SquishBox lets you set it up as several different types of software synthesizers, an audio player, or even create interfaces for your own apps using Python.

The kit comes in three versions:

• Basic: The minimum components needed, if you want to source your own buttons, jacks, and enclosure
• Full: Everything but the enclosure. You can 3D print one using this model or use whatever you want
• Deluxe: All the components plus a 3D-printed PLA enclosure, available in blue, red, or black
