What is it?

This tree is made of two PCBs that you have to solder together to make it look like a Christmas Tree! It also has a lot of different coloured LEDs that will light up along with the music you can hear through a small piezo buzzer!

Why did you make it?

I made it because I wanted to have a small version of the traditional Christmas tree that you can take anywhere during Christmas and cheer up your work desk, your car, or even your fireplace! Thanks to its small size it can be carried everywhere and you can let everyone know that you love Christmas!

What makes it special?

It is special because you are going to solder it and you could always tell your experience with your friends or whoever asks about it because I am sure that its lights will catch their eyes! Not only will you be able to improve your soldering skills with the smd packages, but when you finish you will be able to see its beautiful lights and Christmas music!

How it works?

Easy! Just solder it following the instructions (you can find them at the bottom), insert two CR2025 coin cell batteries, flip the lower switch to light up the LEDs, then, if you want some music, just flip the second switch and get ready to hear cute Christmas music!

The KIT includes:

1 pair of PCBs (green and with a little bit of snow)
1 piezo buzzer
1 IC Chip
1 SMD transistor
4 470Ω 0805 SMD resistors
1 4.7K 0805 SMD resistor
2 switches
1 CR2032 coin cell SMD holder
4 yellow 0805 SMD LED
4 green 0805 SMD LED
4 red 0805 SMD LED
2 curved headers

NOTE: This kit comes with different LED colours, you can choose the colour you like. You can choose from red, yellow, green and blue. Or you can also choose the multicoloured one if you can't decide!

Nice digital mini-christmas-tree

It's really good for learning soldering small SMD parts. This year my office table will get its own christmas tree.

Nice

My first time SMD-soldering... went very well! Don't fear the tiny part parts.
The LEDs have a nice fading effect, the buzzer is a funny bonus, but for me the blinking lights would have been good enough too.

All in all a nice kit, suitable for SMD rookies.

Very nicely done kit. Made a wonderful Christmas gift.

The kit went together quite easily, although admittedly I have a Metcal iron and a stereotactic microscope and have been doing SMT soldering for 30+ years. Still, the PCB footprints were all correct and there were no surprises. The fact that it played multiple Christmas songs was a nice bonus.

Great project for me and my 10-year-old

My 10-year-old is starting to get into electronics and has done a few soldering projects with me. This was the first with SMT, which is definitely more difficult, but we watched a couple of videos and after the first few it was pretty smooth. We did check our solders with a loupe before moving on, and adjusted a few.

The instructions were very clear, with plenty of pictures showing the placements of parts.

Child is very pleased with the result, has been carrying the tree around non-stop since yesterday.

Nice product, but with a flaw

A nice little project to practice soldering, both thru-hole and SMD. The instructions manual has plenty of pictures explaining what to do and how to place all parts, although I'd appreciate a few words (or even just a link) about how to solder SMD components.
After finished building and plugging in two CR2032 batteries, a not-so-nice surprise: very faint and quickly decaying LEDs, and no sound. I figured there was some sort of short circuit, and I found it between the + terminal of the buzzer and the battery holder. I noticed the two parts are really close to each other, so close I thought they were meant to be connected together while soldering. I think 1-2mm more distance between the two parts could have avoided the problem.
Once the short has been fixed, everything went great! Lights and sounds are a nice reward after a couple hours of beginner work.

Very sweet

It's tiny, standing at a little over two inches tall. The LEDs fade in and out slowly and give a very nice 'sparkling' effect, like ornaments slowly turning and reflecting the light.

I've never done any SMD soldering before, and I only have a standard-size soldering iron, but I did manage to assemble this kit in a couple of hours. My tip is to put little blobs of flux on the soldering pads to hold the components in place and to flow the solder.

Cute little tree :)

I was daunted to see it show up in parts lol. Thought it would be mostly assembled. Was worried I might burn out the LEDs, but everything works! My tree is up and running. Speaker is very quiet. At first I thought that I broke it, but turns out it's working. I'm really happy with this little tree .
