What is it?

GPIBtap provides several options for working with GPIB style devices. The kit requires soldering.

Main features include:

• Monitoring & troubleshooting GPIB traffic using a Logic Analyzer (LA not included).
• Hooking up to an Arduino (or similar) is also possible via DuPont wires or perfboard.
• GPIB single ended tap or dual tap for pass-thru mode.
• Silkscreen shows the GPIB header locations for every data and signal line (2 positions for each)
• May also be useful for troubleshooting some older non-GPIB devices (Commodore, printers, disk drives etc)
• Single or dual with a choice of male & female connectors.

Why did you make it?

We have been developing a fully compatible Arduino GPIB USB device and found connecting to a Logic analyzer very difficult and somewhat cumbersome. So we designed this board which greatly improved our workflow for analysis, troubleshooting and debugging.

What makes it special?

GPIBtap can be configured with single or dual connectors. In addition, GPIB can be stacked using long male headers to create up to 4 connectors. (Note: This quad configuration is not usually required as the same config can be achieved using GPIB cables/adapters. In some cases a compact 4 connector 'hub' may prove useful). There are at least 2 header connections for each GPIB data and control signal line along with multiple GND points. Additionally there is a solder jumper provided to allow interruption on the Shield ground signal, if required (connected by default).

• Option H - 20PCs of 20cm Female-Female DuPont wires for use with Logic Analyzer(17 for GPIB + 3 spare = 20)

• Logic Analyzer is not included
• Soldering, soldering equipment is not included
• GPIB equipment or cables are not included

Notes

• IMPORTANT: This kit requires soldering and you should have all of the necessary skills and equipment for this purpose.
• Soldering time should be less than 30 minutes
• Works well with Saleae & Sigrok based Logic Analyzers and many more. To capture the full GPIB bus requires 16 inputs plus 1 GND (16 channel). Of course, you can still capture 8 GPIB signal or 8 data lines with an 8 Channel Logic Analyzer.
• Not for use in any situation where injury, loss of life or damage to property may occur.
• Users should be competent in the subject matter before use.
