What is it?

This is an "appallingly small" add-on shield for Cactus Micro that mounts on the bottom, USB-end of the Cactus Micro by soldering the board to the GND, VCC, RAW. The heart of the board is the LTC4054 battery management chip by Linear Technology. The board has +/- through-hole mounting holes for a JST LiPo battery connector (supplied with the LiPo charger) and for an external DC power supply.

Why did you make it?

For transitioned off the breadboard to real device applications we needed some better way to provide and manage power. With this LiPo charger add-on the charger can be integrated into my applications easily and when I plug in the USB cable to reprogram the Cactus Micro or monitor Serial output, I can be charging at the same time. More importantly, for portable applications it is very convenient to have an on/off switch and I never have to waste time remembering where I put the LiPo charger the last time I used it!
