This is a handy and versatile IR remote control. Unlike most, it's not designed for controlling a television, so it lacks the usual useless array of channel and volume controls. Instead, it has a D-Pad, a power button, a menu button, and a play/pause button, which makes it well suited to a wide variety of hacker projects. The remote uses 36KHz modulation, but works equally well with 38KHz receivers such as the one on the minimatrix.

The remote comes with a CR2025 battery included. A plastic insulation slip is installed to prevent wasting power in transit; make sure to remove this before you try and use the remote! On some remotes, the slip isn't long enough to protrude from the battery compartment, so you'll need to open the battery compartment to get to it.
