The Idea

Inspired by the DIYRuZ AirSense project, this Zigbee CO2 sensor was created to deliver a reliable and versatile air quality monitoring solution for smart home systems. With easy integration into home automation setups, this sensor provides real-time insights into your indoor environment.

What is it?

This Zigbee CO2 Sensor is a compact, smart device designed for continuous monitoring of your indoor air quality. It uses a combination of high-precision sensors to measure key environmental factors:

• CO2 Levels: Measured by the reliable SenseAir S8 sensor, which has an accuracy of ±30 ppm (parts per million) + 3% of reading, ensuring accurate detection of carbon dioxide concentrations.
• Temperature: Measured with the BME280 sensor, offering an accuracy of ±1°C.
• Humidity: Also measured by the BME280, with an accuracy of ±3% RH (relative humidity).
• Atmospheric Pressure: The BME280 provides pressure readings with an accuracy of ±1 hPa (hectopascal).

The device is built on a compact PCB and powered via a USB-A port, making it easy to install and maintain. It connects to your smart home hub using the Zigbee protocol, providing seamless integration with existing Zigbee-based systems like Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT, or other smart home platforms.

Why did you make it?

I build this sensor to fill a gap in the market for a DIY-friendly, highly accurate, and cost-effective air quality monitor. Many CO2 sensors are either expensive or lack the flexibility for smart home integration. By utilizing the open-source DIYRuZ AirSense project and incorporating high-quality components like the SenseAir S8 and BME280, this sensor offers a customizable and reliable solution for monitoring your indoor air quality.
