The Great Divide is a passive mixer, CV manipulator, Digital-to-Analog converter and more. All at once, and pretty experimental in every of those aspects! And it's actually twice this circuit! More info further down, but first a small note on what you get.

The Great Divide comes as a full kit, meaning all components to make a full AE Modular module are included (PCB + components + front panel + screws/spacers). The only thing you need, is a soldering iron, some fresh solder and a little bit of spare time. This build is EXTREMELY EASY, as it comprises only resistors and patch sockets. It is very much suited for beginners :)

The Great Divide is a module based on, probably the first ever, Digital-to-analog converter circuit: the humble resistor ladder (also known as R2R). Comprehensive Wikipedia & textbook pages have been written about this barebones, but useful circuit.

The genius idea to implant this primitive circuit into modular synthesis, does not belong to me, but to the fantastic Olegtron. The Great Divide is specifically tailored for the AE Modular format. The resistor values have been changed, as well as two outputs/inputs that have been dropped. But in return, you get TWO resistor ladders in one module! Basically a 2R2R! The eight left AND right patch sockets each contain one resistor ladder. Each of this sockets can be used as an input, or an output, its really all up to your choosing. There is no danger to create shorts of any kind, as the resistance between each socket is high enough to guarantee free patching. So don't stress it, and just try stuff out.

In order to fit two circuits under one hood, I had to drop one input in each of both. For the left resistor ladder, the '128' input has been dropped. (Meaning that, from a traditional R2R viewpoint, you basically have 128 possible bits instead of 256.) For the second circuit, the '1' input has been dropped.
