Read More…This is a Tasmota compatible dimmer/actuator/sensor and general purpose smart home interface board to either make various devices smart or create new ones. Typical uses include RGBW dimming, single/multi room heating control, even automating plants!
ESP-Hiro has multiple interfaces directly on board which allow you to connect almost anything you would want to have automated. Some parts like a DHT22 or an IR blaster are basically pre-wired on board, all of the ESP8266's usable GPIO are broken out to plugs/sockets, and since the board was (and still is) pretty empty I've thrown in a PCF8574 port expander in case you might think of a usecase with more pins than the ESP has.
The board itself is delivered as a mostly assembled kit only the THT parts and the ESP will need to be soldered by you. Everything else will already be assembled. You also have the choice of including a 3D printed Shoe or Case with your order, which will be printed on demand in metallic blue PETG.
Most smart home devices are pretty expensive and/or locked up through vendor apps. Tasmota fixes locked devices already but still you are bound to expensive devices that mostly do one thing only and never really fit what you are trying to do. For example I wanted a single device that can measure soil humidity, room temperature, PWM dim a light and send IR commands to an AC unit. Try finding an off the shelf device for that.
It combines the best things about Arduino-style devboards while still being rugged enough and using industry standard connectors to actually work in a production environment without pin headers that slide off by a gust of wind.
