The VGA Black Edition is a shield for the popular ESP MINI KIT.
The limited first version was sold out within a short time. This new version is smaller, matte black and also limited to 100 pieces.
It allows you to connect a standard VGA display to the micro controller and display super fast graphics using my ESP32Lib Arduino library. Text, drawing functions, sprites, a 3D-engine and game controller support... What else do you need?
The development of this board started with my multimedia series on my YouTube channel Bitluni's lab. My goal is always to tickle the maximum out of the hardware possible. Sometimes it gets complicated but I still want the projects to be comprehensible and motivate everyone to replicate it.
This board should make the VGA projects easier to rebuilt. The board consists of big trough hole components and should be easy to solder even for beginners.

Very satisfying!
I enjoyed all of the soldering, which wasn't so difficult. But I had exactly the same problem as bitluni himself when soldering the resistors, solder got into the neighbouring resistor holes and I had to de- and re-solder them to fit the resistors through. Quite tricky! I recommend placing and soldering a complete line of resistors and not doing it in order of resistor value, that way you'll avoid getting solder in any empty holes! When I finally got everything soldered, including the esp32 mini supplied by bitluni, I connected it up to a vga monitor and.... it worked, first time! Fired up all of the arduino examples, and very nice they are too. Very rewarding and a very nice vga display which works with all of my charity shop vga monitors. I hope I can use this as a dashboard to display values from my esp32 m5stack sensor mesh around the house using esp-now.

Received it today, soldered the resistors and connectors - and the result is amazing. I can see the output of an ESP32 on a VGA monitor.

A nice kit to play around with.
I bought this product to play around with Video Output. It did not disappoint in that. Yet, it had a few problems. I wanted to access some other pins of the ESP32. This was quite hard, since only a few pins (GND, 3.3V, VCC, 0, 34, 5, 26, 25, 35, 36, 39 and EN) are given by the shield to be used outside of Video Output. Not being able to use some pins like Tx and Rx made it quite hard to expand this project. I tried SoftwareSerial on some pins, which did not work, but that might have been my fault. Overall an amazing kit to play around with.
It seems I was missing the instructions in the shipped package but I could easily find it online.
Sadly there is barely any documentation for the ESP32lib but that doesn't have anything to do with the actual product, so I'll say its pretty well documented for what we have.

You can try HardwareSerial on pins 5, 25, 26. Simply use "Serial1.begin(baudRate, SERIAL_8N1, rxPin, txPin);" in the setup. Pins 35,36,39 are read only on the ESP32. All other pins needed for VGA. Pin 0 is important for boot mode selection but you could use it as an output pin as long it isn't pulled anywhere. I didn't break out RX/TX since it's connected to USB and I didn't want it to interfere with added hardware, but that could be something to improve in future. There was only a paper version of the instructions in the version 0.1. In order to keep it updated there is only an online version and video tutorial left. The Link is on the label of the antistatic bag (https://bitluni.net/vga). Please try the ESP32Lib examples. There is code showing every feature with comments. This should give you a good starting point. The Adafruit GFX wrapper might also make it easier since there is a lot based on that out there.

The board has a professional look. All components are fit easily. lot of fun and many ways to use it. My kid appreciated the sweet surprise.

It's fine
Another nice kit by bitluni, easy to assemble.
The bundled ESP32 comes with a pre-flashed demo that allows you to test the board without programming first.
The kit comes with more resistors than you need, so there is plenty of room for error during assembly.
