Volume

Install a 100K potentiometer, such as eeZee Potentiometer, adjacent to the 3 Vol pins on the board.

Gain

Pins 1 and 8 provide gain control. With no external components, gain is set to 20 (26 dB). For full gain of 200 (46dB), bypass the pins with a capacitor (10uF, for example).

If you want to control gain between 20 and 200, put a resistor in series with the capacitor. Or, you can capacitively couple a FET from pin 1 to ground for electronic gain control. For details see the documentation.

Speaker

I recommend an 8 ohm speaker. The wattage depends on voltage supply input. At 6V, use a 0.4W speaker. 9V use 0.8W. 12V use 0.9W.
