A pair of 3D-printed cooling ducts for the SilverStone DS380 case which dramatically improve the cooling of hard drives installed in the DS380 case.

The Cooling Ducts are printed in black filament. But for an additional charge ($2.00 per pair), a custom color can be chosen. Please pick the Custom Color product option and specify the color in your order's Additional Instructions when placing the order:

Why did you make it?

In building a DIY NAS in the Silverstone DS380 Case I noticed that my hard disk drives were getting incredibly hot--despite having two 120mm fans pointing right at the drive bays. Unfortunately the air being pulled in by the fans followed the path of least resistance very little--if any--air was pushed over the drives.

So I decided to 3D-design a cooling duct for the SilverStone DS380. The premise was to screw in the ducts into the top of the 120mm fans which would make the path of least resistance for the air to flow through the drive cage and then get drawn out the back of the case by its exhaust fans.

What makes it special?

It works! Adding the cooling ducts to the DIY NAS: 2017 Edition dropped the temperatures of the hard drives from 40-55 degrees Celsius down to 32-40 degrees Celsius.

What else can you tell me?

For a long time, I only shared the Cooling Duct's 3D-design files for others with 3D-printers to recreate. But people without access to 3D-printers were constantly asking for them.

For the past 5-6 years, you could buy them from the patshead.com store on Tindie. Pat iterated and improved the design to the point where he was even making cooling ducts out of carbon fiber. However, Pat has decided to retire this product.

When Pat stopped selling his, I incorporated some of Pat's design improvements back into my original design and decided I'd list them up for sale on Tindie.
