Read More…We've all seen electroluminescent (EL) wire—its 360-degree glow is amazing, but its power requirements and flexibility aren't. To solve this problem and give you unlimited opportunities to realize all of your TRON-like fantasies for model-building, we present our 300mm flexible LED filament.
These filaments are truly amazing. Operating on 3V DC, there are hundreds of microscopic LED lights inside the rubberized, flexible outer shell. Power connections are on both ends (one end is positive and the other is negative).
Each pack includes five 300mm flexible LED filaments in your choice of color. Looking for filament longer than 300mm? You can solder them end-to-end if you're handy with a soldering iron.
How flexible are these filaments? See for yourself:
(Blue filament)
(Red filament)
(Green filament)
(Warm white filament)
They really are like little laser bullwhips!
We are selling these raw filaments in packs of five, so you get five 300mm flexible filaments in each pack.
The filaments measure 300mm long and 1.5mm thick. Note that the 300mm length is the total length of the filament (including the metal tabs on the ends)—the actual length of the LED element itself is closer to 290mm.
Unfortunately, because of the way the filaments are manufactured, they cannot be cut to a shorter length. If you need the exposed lighting area to be shorter than the length of the filaments, you can cover the unwanted LED elements with black heat-shrink tubing, or you can use some other sort of masking technique.
Each end of the filament has a metal tab—one side is the positive terminal (indicated by a small hole in the metal tab), and the other side is the negative terminal. To use them, you need to very carefully solder wires onto each end of the filament, then connect to power.
These operate on just 3V DC, with a forward voltage drop for all colors of approximately 2.56v, but because of all the LEDs inside, each filament consumes approximately 120mA of power, so we don't recommend coin cell batteries for power (you can run them with coin cells, of course, but your batteries will run out very quickly). Nor do we recommend driving them directly from a microcontroller without the use of a high-current driver like a MOSFET.

We're excited to see what you create with these awesome little flex filaments!
