CN3153FA is a replacement for the previous TP4056FlexAdv module and any 4056 module available on the market saving you time and making your own projects a lot more compact and easier to put together.
I am sure all who start working with lithium batteries face the same problem.. how to charge them safely. Most people find 4056 chargers cheap and easy to use but those are not always using quality parts, there are a lot of variants and are prone to damage with micro usb connectors easily flying off the pcbs and having to solder wires to them is not always an easy task. If you need to use higher voltages to charge the battery in hand you also need a separate voltage regulator and if your applications calls for anything other than battery level voltages (3-4.2V) you also need a boost converter.
CN3153FA stands for a CN3153 charger which is F-lexible and A-dvanced.
All connections to the module are either via connectors or screw terminals - No more soldering a bunch of wires to tiny PCBs.
Input voltage can be either 5V USB or 8-25V from a variety of sources including solar! - You can use your old router or laptop or phone power supplies without problems. You can even connect it to a small solar panel and it will charge your batteries. - No need to buy another module to lower the voltage of most available power sources at your disposal!
The battery or batteries are being charged safely and are protected against short circuits, overcharging and undercharging!
You get access to the battery voltage (a load powered directly from the battery with protection - safe to draw up to 2A directly from battery - can supply higher currents -battery depended- but its not safe to do so for prolonged periods of time) You also get a booster circuit capable to deliver up to 12V. The booster IC (MT3608) claims 2A output capability... in real life testing though with a voltage drop no more than 10% it will deliver 1A@5V 0.5A@12V still capable to power a wide variety of loads and there is no need to buy another module to elevate the battery voltage!
TP4056FlexAdv is only 49x49mm and it can fit in small enclosures. You can build a self-contained power source with old or new mobile phone batteries, there are many Nokia or Sony etc batteries that will fit nicely under the PCB saving space and making it possible to power your projects for hours!
Like the TP4056FlexAdv module it comes to replace, there is more to it! In typical TP4056 modules, the charging current is set via a fixed SMD resistor at 1A... this is too much of a current for smaller batteries you may need in your projects. CN3153FA being flexible, offers the possibility to change charging current via a jumper choosing between 60mA and up to 1A (60-120-250-500-750-1000mA)! No need to replace tiny SMD resistors anymore!
And if all this is not enough, CN3153FA like its predecessor is kind-of-smart too! You can activate/deactivate the boost converter either manually by on-board toggle switch or by an external source like a micro-controller, the Arduino you use it with, a sensor etc.. External control is available with the switch in the disabled position. Note than although boost converter may be deactivated, there is still voltage to the output (battery level). CN32153FA is even smarter than that! There are two optional headers on-board one of which is an auxiliary 5V/500mA max power supply (available only when external power is present - can delivery over 1.5A when battery is not charging) The other 4 pin connector though is a measurement point where battery and boost converter voltages can be measured and also charging current (needs to be calculated). This feature can be used right away as is but it is purposed to allow connection with a Burgduino Logic Shield module which has an atmega328/RTC & LCD or OLED display (you can see the prototypes combined in the last photo)
