UPDATED: The jig is now a much simpler slip on resin jig.

This is a PCB USB-C charging port to replace the original charging port on the 3DS-XL, this port works with USB-C to USB-C cable charging so you don't need to worry about having a USB to USB-C cable.

The Installation jig allows you to solder down the castellated holes while holding the PCB in perfect alignment.

While I've tested the jig on a few 3DS XL boards I can't guarantee a perfect fit so some sanding may be required, due to the snipping require I considered the jig a one-use item. In testing I get ~5.1 V and .75A while charging. I do not preserve the old gold contacts of the 3DS XL.

Here is my installation process (refer to pictures):

1. Disassemble your 3DS XL
2. Remove the PCB.
3. Use a hot air station @290C (no more than 30-40 seconds is necessary) to remove the original charging port (preheat the board with a hot plate @168C or use the hot air station to preheat the board)
4. Clean the PCB pads
5. Slip the jig onto the PCB board, you can place the USBC board in the jig first or after it doesn't matter. Make sure to align the peg with the slot and push in firmly, it's a friction fit so you shouldn't need to worry about it moving while soldering.
6. Apply some flux to the castellated holes
7. Use a decent amount of solder to the affix the board. I have my iron at 295C for this.
8. Disassemble the jig (use flush cutters to snip the arms, refer to the picture). DO NOT disassemble the jig or tug on it while the motherboard is still hot, you risk bending the PCB wait a bit or put some IPA on it to cool it down.
9. Touch up each pad and heat up the pads near the edge so that the solder on the pads under them melts. 10 (optional). Heat up the board again with the hot air station to make sure everything is settled and make sure all the pads are in contact (no more than 30-40 seconds @290 C)
10. Use a multimeter to make sure that VCC isn't shorted to GND. Refer to the picture for positive (VCC) and negative (GND) points on the board to check. Make sure that you have connections to the + and negative pads on the USBC board (the respective arrows are pointing to them) and the PCB board.

Sanding/fitting and final steps: 1. Take some flush cutters and snip away at the plastic 'gate' of the old charging port. 2. Put the bezel on the USB-C port and reassemble the 3DSXL 3 (optional). keep cutting down the plastic if you find it's not fitting to your liking, not much needs to be done so do be careful.
