Dieses Projekt ist einfach nur grandios!

Die CPU W65C816 ist einfach nur faszienierend. Ich liebe die 6502 seit meiner Jugend, und der große Bruder ist, wie mir scheint, eine gelungene Brücke zwischen 8 Bit und 16 Bit Welt. Leider hat kaum wer das Potential dieser großartigen CPU erkannt. Meines Wissens gibt es die nur in dem Apple GS und in dem SNES von Nintendo ...

Ich mag minimalistische Ansätze. Wenn etwas sehr einfach ist, dann ist es oft auch sehr gut. Die Platine des OS216 ist wirklich minimalistisch. In der Größe der Platine und auch in der Komplexität. Und doch ist das OS816 von der Speicher Kapazität von einem Megabyte keineswegs minimalistisch, zumindest aus der Sicht der 8 Bit Welt von damals.

Man hat sich nicht gescheut die uralte Retro Technik zu mischen mit modernen Bausteinen (512K SRAM, 512K FLASH Speicher). Mir gefällt das! Wenn manche sagen, das hat es aber früher nicht gegeben ... dann sage ich, wenn es das gegeben hätte, dann wäre es auch so verwendet worden. Man sollte keine "Sinnfragen" stellen bei Retro Computer. Es macht Spaß, und vieles macht man einfach, weil man es kann!

Und Spaß macht das OS816 wirklich! Nicht zuletzt weil man Assembler und C einsetzen kann, und das auch noch im Mix.
