What is it?

Earrings with LED's designed for Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead). The different patterns are controlled by an ATtiny84a and programmed with the Arduino IDE. These earrings are powered by a CR1225 coin cell battery, and will last at least a day, and up to 2 weeks (depending on the pattern and the color (voltage forwarding) of the LED). A button on the back of the earring can be used to select different patterns, or to turn off the device.

These earrings can be programmed with the Arduino IDE, using a SPI programmer (for example the Arduino UNO as programmer).

Why did you make it?

I was invited to bring some of my work to the day of the dead festival in Stockton, CA. The first earrings (Spiral) were such a success, so I used that same concept to light up the eyes around some sugar skulls.

What makes it special?

The earrings are entirely assembled by hand. I use a stencil and reflow oven to install the components on the font, the back is done with a soldering iron. The Arduino IDE is used to program the micro-controller. To conserve energy, the ATtiny84a is in sleep mode, 99.9% of the time. It only wakes up to determine which LED should be turned on or off before entering sleep mode again.

awesome gift!

Really well made, bit smaller than expected but that's a good thing. I was worried they would be too big to wear.

They don't take the usual CR3032, something to pay attention to.

Gift for Granddaughter, she was very pleased to get them.

These earrings are very neat, cool , whatever you want to say. I had saw them on Tindie for a while and with Christmas coming up, I decided to get some for my Granddaughter. Will possibly order more from seller in future.
