What is it?

Introducing the ultimate DIY fume extractor, designed to keep you safe from harmful soldering fumes. With dimensions of just 40.5x40.5mm (not including protrusions), this PCB is incredibly compact and versatile, making it perfect for a range of projects beyond fume extraction. Its controllable output voltage range of ≈ 5-13V, adjustable via a potentiometer on the side, means it can deliver the power you need for all kinds of projects. And since it doesn't use PWM you don't get any weird noise depending one which speed setting you select!

The circuit is designed with a maximum charging current of 500mA, allowing you to run the fume extractor from a USB charger via the built-in load sharing feature. However, if you plan to use a 5V 1A charger, you should make sure the fan doesn't exceed 500mA (equates to roughly a 1.5W fan) to avoid potential problems if you run the fan while charging. Note that, you can increase the charging limit to 1A by swapping a resistor value, if you plan to use a charger with a higher current rating.

We know that aesthetics are important, so we've made the enclosure open-source, allowing you to modify it to fit your personal style and battery source. The original design accommodates 2 18650 batteries in parallel for maximum run time (Aliexpress), but you can use other battery sources if you prefer and make the necessary adjustments to the enclosure design.

Additionally, it's worth mentioning that the circuit's efficiency is around 80%, ensuring that it operates with optimal power usage. Moreover, it has only a voltage ripple of less than 70mV with a 3W load, guaranteeing a stable and reliable power supply for your project. This feature makes it ideal for use in various applications that require consistent power delivery. What's needed?

To complete your fume extractor, you'll need to add a lithium battery and/or holder, a 120x120x25mm 12V DC fan (max 1.5W for 1A charger, otherwise max 2.5-3W), 130x130x10mm carbon filter, 4x M3 30mm mounting screws for the fan (can be modified in the CAD), screws for back cover (can be either M3 or some self tapping screws) and an enclosure that you can print yourself (Printables).
